Ajax, a former human (Unknown date 1970s - ), is a cybernetic soldier, who, after a long string of unfortunate life circumstances, was upgraded with cybernetics and turned into a highly-effective lethal combatant. He currently serves Latitude Zero as a member of the Zone Fighters.
Childhood and early life[edit]
Though records on Ajax are scarce, a few early details have been collected.
Originally born sometime in the 1970s in New York, Anthony "Mouse" Hotlz was born to a drug-addicted mother, which resulted in several birth defects, including a small stature and poor constitution for much of his childhood.
Sometime in the mid-1980s, when Anthony was around 12, his mother overdosed on heroine, leaving him to fend for himself on the streets. Due to frail nature, he was forced to join up with several other youths in a street gang, to protect himself.
By the late 1980s, and nearing the age of 18, Anthony had been arrested countless times, and had spent much of his teenage years in juvenile detention facilities. Due to the severity and nature of his crimes, he was given the choice of either being enrolled into a boot-camp style military academy, upon turning 18, or he would be transferred to a maximum-security prison, which given his record and penchant for violence, he would likely never be released from.

"Lost on the way to College"[edit]
Because of his continuing small size, and possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison, Anthony chose to enter the Douglas Haig Military Academy, to complete his legal punishment. Within days, he realized he'd made a mistake.
His time at the academy were brutal and violent, with the facility being less of an actual military academy, and in reality, being a training facility to enlist unwilling subjects into private military contract work, overseas.
Africa[edit]
In the early 1990s, Anthony was forcibly trafficked into contract work, in Africa. The post, outside Mogadishu, had a high turnover rate, due to protecting a local warlord during a civil war, with few guards surviving mere weeks into the service contract.
Having outlived his units assignment window, due to a combination of tenacity and resourcefulness, Anthony was assigned to a more reputable post, known as Quick Reaction Force, Group 3. While the assignments were no less dangerous, Anthony's skills were better utilized, and his unit had a successful run of missions, doing off-record work around the globe.
Apex & Experimentation[edit]
After a string of successful missions with his new unit, Anthony and several of his fellow soldiers received an offer from official military sources, offering hefty monetary compensation, and to not only buy out their existing contracts, but expunge any civilian criminal records, in exchange for joining an experimental cybernetics program.
After extensive testing and augmentation, results show Anthony has the highest tolerance for cybernetic augmentation in the program's history. Field test missions are undertaken, and executed flawlessly, showing Anthony as the most promising candidate the doctors and engineers have ever encountered.
The final field test, in the mid-1990s, involved tactical insertion into an active war zone, to see if a single individual could tip the scales. Being dropped into a small village in Bosnia, lethal protocol was enacted, and Anthony single-handedly eliminated hundreds of combatants, preparing for an assault from further to the west. While waiting for extraction, Serbian forces advanced on the town unexpectedly fast, and Anthony took a direct hit from an RPG, rendering him unconscious and grievously wounding him.

An unknown amount of time later, Anthony woke up in a laboratory, severely burned, a quadruple amputee, and being kept alive only through life support. Doctors offered him two options: continue on life support, permanently disfigured and handicapped, with half his internal organs missing, and a life expectancy of weeks to months; or, he could sign a new contract, agreeing to the world's first full cybernetic human conversion, and having most of his flesh and organs replaced with machinery, while any remaining tissue and organs were to be stabilized with gene therapy and modifications.
That day, Anthony Holtz died, and Ajax was born. The pinnacle of years of R&D work by Apex Cybernetics.
Records of Augmentation[edit]
In 2025, a whistleblower at Apex Cybernetics leaked confidential internal documents on numerous projects, but most notably the Ajax Project, to the press. A week later, the whistleblower was found deceased in their hotel room, hands bound behind their back, and shot in the back of the head. The death was ruled a suicide, the leaked files were discredited, and a U.S. Congressional investigation was subsequently dropped.

- Anthony's memories were seemingly wiped from existence, and Apex began using him as security operative.
- Anthony's cybernetics payload was estimated to be around 65%, with around 90% of those being artificial components.
- His biological organs, though intact, were loaded into shock absorbing capsules, rendering them virtually indestructible by conventional weapons. These include his brain, lungs, and heart.
- His base frame, known as the Dragoon-1, was the original prototype of a heavy weapons combat frame, developed by Apex, and notably, it's successors added an extensive list of war crimes to their product line.
