G-Force

From Zone Fighters Campaign Wiki

G-Force (aka, Gigantis Force) was formed back in 1946 by then U.S. president, Harry S. Truman. Known originally as Monarch back when it was first established, the organization was intended to investigate recent reports of military encounters with cryptozoological entities.

History[edit]

In 1943, the shredded remains of the Fletcher-class Destroyer, USS Lawton, was discovered beached on the shores of South Georgia Island by a patrolling US naval vessel following a distress signal. The Lawton's armored hull had been torn by deep gashes and her crew all by missing, save for a single survivor, Corporal Bill Randa, found near comatose from shock. During later interviews, Randa would go on to recount to investigators how the ship was caught between a battle between two sea monsters; one that "made a sound like a fog horn" and another that "had two heads and glowed like a light".

The Lawton's fate was covered up by the US government who stated that the Lawton merely ran afoul a treacherous iceberg field. Just one year after the end of WWII, President Truman would meet in secret with General Douglas MacArthur to assemble a team to investigate any further reports of cryptozoological organisms under the "Monarch Initiative". Due to his encounter, Bill Randa was chosen to be amongst the first to join.

On November 3rd of 1954, the Japanese freighter Eiko Maru and the Southern Seas Shipping vessel Bingo Maru were suddenly sunk off the coast of Odo Island. Reports quickly reached Monarch headquarters of the incidents and the ship's distress calls of being attacked by a "Great Dragon". A joint operation of the US navy and Japanese Coast Guard was sent to investigate the area, under the supervision of Monarch. Following several sonar hits, the fleet tracked an unknown aquatic entity far south to Kamiko Island where it made landfall and was bombarded by naval gunfire. In turn the creature retaliated, scorching several ships with its burning breath and sinking several others with volleys of obsidian shards.

After a nearly two-month standoff with the creature (initially dubbed "Gargantua" in early reports), the entity fled south to the Antarctic where Monarch agents continued to track the creature across the frozen landscape. After several days and night of chasing "Gargantua" across the southern pole, the entity led its pursuers to a seemingly organic opening in the bedrock of the Antarctic soil; the open maw of Gigantis, into which it retreated. By April the 27th, Monarch establishes a base of operations along the precipice of the maw, dubbed "Area-G". During construction however, numerous personnel began to fall ill with symptoms similar to intense radiation poisoning leading to numerous deaths.

Following the deaths of several senior military officers, a Monarch agent named Steven Martin was hastily (out of desperation on MacArthur's part) promoted to the supervisor (Overseer) position of Area-G, mostly due to his seemingly innate immunity to the radioactive emissions of the maw.
